Award winning cool climate Shiraz l Central Victoria l Australia
2002 Shiraz
The growing season for the 2002 vintage was memorable for weeks of constant wind at Sugarloaf Creek Vineyard. This resulted in low levels of fruit-set and produced a crop of less than 1 tonne an acre. Combined with the very long and slow ripening period experienced, the wine produced is of very high quality.
As Winewise Magazine noted when awarding the 2002 Sugarloaf Creek with the Trophy in the 2004 Small Vignerons Awards:
“Outstanding - 2002 Sugarloaf Creek Vineyard Shiraz. The entrancingly fragrant nose of blackberry, violets and pepper won the judges over immediately. When it was followed by a fine, long, supple palate full of ripe, pure, beautifully defined varietal fruit, a gold medal was a certainty. This is a superb expression of cool area Australian shiraz.”

2003 Shiraz
Another outstanding offering from a year when no rain fell on the vineyard from the end of January through the entire ripening phase. The fruit handled the harsh conditions superbly and achieved the degree of shrivel and flavours we look for, cropping at just over 2 tonnes per acre.
An elegant medium bodied Shiraz with some beautiful varietal fruit and classic spice with great length and persistence on palate. The 2003 Sugarloaf Creek displays aromas and flavours of dark berries and spice with a highly perfumed nose and deep colour that is a consistent characteristic of the Sugarloaf Creek Shiraz. Drink to 2010.
